17 July Sit and Sew

Nineteen members spending a pleasant evening sitting, sewing and chatting with each other.

During the evening Adele said 28-29 people had booked to go on the coach to the Festival of Quilts at the NEC. There was a deficit of £36.54 which would be met by Leominster Quilters.

Members were asked to indicate on the forms being circulated if they would help at Leominster Quilters’ Exhibition to be held at the end of August.

Proceeds from the sale of Raffle tickets would be donated to the Leominster Dementia Group Charity and thanks went to Clare for attending the meeting and giving a very interesting, and sometimes amusing, insight into the work the Charity carried out. (A copy of a Leaflet giving more information about the Charity is available a under Notices).

Maureen had brought along her finished Mystery quilt for members to see. She said most of the quilting had been done with a walking foot and stencils plus a little free motion quilting.

Several members who had taken part in the challenge had brought their quilt to show the group and it was interesting to see the varied colour combinations the challenge had produced. Most members had followed the instructions given, but it was interesting to see how some had followed their own instincts and altered the pattern and layout. It was hoped that all members who had taken part in the challenge would have their quilt ready to display at the exhibition.

Several members took a supply of Flyers advertising the forthcoming Exhibition to distribute throughout the area.

With the aid of her samples Mary showed us how to make the folded hexagon fob.

With much chatting and laughter most members managed to go home with a completed fob thanks to Mary’s guidance and patience. Others said they would finish theirs at home, so looks like I shall be busy! Many members agreed they would like to make another fob at home so perhaps we could bring them to display at the next meeting.

Thank you Mary for a very enjoyable evening.

During the evening tea and coffee was served together with some mouth watering cakes thanks to Sally and Jane. Thank you ladies the cakes were scrumptious, an enjoyable change from the usual tea and biscuits.

Whilst enjoying their refreshments Adele and Kate set out the hexagon flowers ready to to make a quilt for Leominster Dementia Group.
