Sewing Happily Since 1989

With the first sign of Spring and the lighter nights 34 members attended the meeting and were reminded to add their name to the list if they wished to go on the coach to the NEC.
It was noted Churchdown Patchwork and Quilters were holding an Exhibition on the 5th and 6th April at Churchdown Community Centre.
Following the notices, the guest for the evening, Lizzie Wall, was introduced. She had brought along a large and varied selection of beautiful items to show us. It was interesting and fascinating to hear in great detail the stories of what had inspired her to produce such magnificent designs. We all learned such a lot during her talk. Afterwards, we had the opportunity to see the items at close quarters and realise how much thought and work had gone into them.
Thanks go to Kate for a brilliant vote of thanks and to Val and Mary for providing the refreshments.
Talk by Joy Harber “An obsession with Log Cabin”
Prior to the talk Maureen advised that notification had been received about a textile exhibition by Alexandra Kingswell, called “Seeking the Light” that would be on display in Lichfield Cathedral from 19 March to 13 April. It would also be on display in Leicester Cathedral from 25July to 25 August.
A coach was being organised to go to the Festival of Quilts at the NEC on Thursday 31 July. Members interested in joining the trip were asked to fill in their names on the list circulating. Once numbers and a coach were confirmed members would be advised of the total cost of the trip and tickets could be purchased.
Pat advised that she had available the final instructions of her mini quilt challenge.
The meeting was then handed over to the guest speaker for the evening, Joy Harber.
Joy detailed how she had started her career in quilting and how her love of Log Cabin quilts had evolved. Her quilts ranged from the traditional sized quilt blocks to miniature blocks and she outlined the methods she adopted to make the quilts. She amazed us with her award winning quilts, some of which she had designed herself and for which she had won national and international recognition and prizes. Her relaxed presentation and amusing stories elicited lots of laughter and at the end of her talk she said she hoped members would join her later in the year in a workshop. She then invited members to look at, and handle, the quilts she had brought along.
Joy was thanked for her very interesting and encouraging talk which everyone had thoroughly enjoyed, so much so that many members agreed they were eager to take part in the future workshop.
These are a small sample of the quilts Joy had brought along to show us.
Thanks go to Clare and Ruth for making the tea.
A lovely bright sunny afternoon encouraged 20 members to attend.
Details were now available regarding the International Festival of Quilts to be held at the NEC in August. Members agreed they would like a coach to be made available to take them to the event.
Lisa had brought along a collection of fabric which had been donated and members were invited to take any they liked, free of charge.

Adele showed us examples of her Stuffed Chickens and tablemat and gave tips on how to make them, she then handed out the patterns . Members not wishing to take part in the workshop worked on their individual projects.

Thanks go to Sally and Jane who treated us to refreshments and some delicious cake.
19 February
The first afternoon Sit and Sew for 2025 attracted 17 members who worked on their individual projects.

Pat distributed the third set of instructions for the block of the month.
A Tea Rota was circulated and members were asked to add their names to the list.
Notification had been received from Jan Serby from Ross-on-Wye who was downsizing and wished to sell her long arm Avanti Handi Quilter for the price of £5,250 which included several extras. If anyone was interested they were asked to contact Jan direct at serbytob@sky.com
